Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ get 480fps super slow motion mode with latest update



When the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones were launched, they set a new benchmark in the camera category. The phones were launched with their primary camera equipped with dual-aperture and 960fps slow-motion mode but only in a 720p resolution and could only record up to 0.2 seconds of real time. The company has rolled out an update for both of this year’s flagships which enables a 480fps mode as well which can now record up to 0.4s of the real time. The capture resolution, however still remains 720p. The update, which has has been rolled out only in India and South Korea, also brings stability to AR EMOJI.
“The stability of camera functions AR EMOJI and Super Slow Motion has been improved. The stability of your device has been improved. The security of your device has been improved,” the update, with the build number G965FXXU2BRG6, said. According to a document by Samsung, the update comes on the Android Oreo (8.0.0) and Samsung has released the update on July 18. However, there is a catch. Shooting in manual Super slow motion mode is fixed at 480fps only. If you are the one of those who has got the update, you need to switch back to the automatic mode if you want to shoot super slow mode at 960fps.

The cameras on the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ have dual aperture lens arrangement f/1.5 for low-light shots and f/2.4 for regular shots. Interestingly, f/1.5 is the largest aperture on a smartphone camera. While the Galaxy S9 features a single camera at the back, the Galaxy S9+ is the first in the Galaxy S lineup to sport a dual-camera setup. While talking about the display, users get a 5.8-inch curved Super AMOLED display in the Galaxy S9 while the Galaxy S9+ sports a 6.2-inch panel. Both the devices are powered by Samsung’s proprietary Exynos 9810 in global markets and the Snapdragon 845 in the US.
