WhatsApp Testing Continuous Voice Message And Group Calling Shortcut Features

WhatsApp is testing two interesting and time-saving features. While the first one allows continuous voice message playback, the other is group calling shortcut.

WhatsApp 'Private Reply' Feature Rolls Out to Beta Testers, Confirmed to Show Ads in Status Section
WhatsApp seems to be testing some interesting features. However, the web-based instant messaging platform has not even allowed its loyal beta testing group to access or trial them. The platform wants to offer continuous playback of multiple voice messages, and deploy an easy-to-access group calling shortcut.
Developers working on WhatsApp are clearly working on two interesting features that would significantly improve functionality and make mass communication easier. Incidentally, the features or their presence has been observed within the code of the WhatsApp Beta App. However, developers seem reluctant to offer them up for trial as the features are not enabled even for the beta testers who accept the risk or running applications or software that would obviously contain some bugs or issues.

WhatsApp Testing Continuous Voice Message Playback and Group Calling Shortcut

Reports circulating on the internet claim the new WhatsApp features under active consideration include the ability to playback multiple audio messages consecutively one after the other, and shortcuts to make group calls. Quite a few Android developers spotted the ability to continuously play received voice messages as well as the ability to make a group call through a simple shortcut. This confirms the assumption that WhatsApp is planning to deploy the features soon.
Strangely, despite the presence of the code in the Beta version of WhatsApp clearly pointing to the development of these features, the developers haven’t enabled them even for beta users.
WhatsApp Group Calling
The Continuous Playback feature detects multiple voice messages. The feature simply instructs the app to play all the voice messages one after the other. Once enabled, users simply need to tap on the first voice message. After the voice message ends, WhatsApp will start playing the next. The playlist will continue until the app plays out the last voice message.
Interestingly, the developers have even built in audio clues to let the WhatsApp user know about the beginning and the end of each voice message. The first audio cue will play when one audio message has played out and there is another message ready for playback. The second one will play when the voice message has completed playback and there are no pending messages.

How Does The Group Calling Shortcut In WhatsApp Work?

The second feature the platform is apparently testing is a ‘Group Call’ feature. WhatsApp may deploy the shortcut at the top-right corner of the group conversation. Incidentally, tapping on the same will not instantly start a group call with all the members. When users will click on the shortcut, the app will present them with a list of the members in the group. Incidentally, to make group call, users must save all the contacts in their contact list.

Once the users select the contacts, they will have the ability to either make a video or an audio call. Selecting one of the options, will initiate the relevant group call. Incidentally, Group Calling is enabled in WhatsApp. However, the present process is a bit cumbersome. It involves initiating a call with one of the group member. Users can and then manually add other members in the call one by one.

WhatsApp Announces Stickers Rollout, Will Be Available to All Android, iPhone Users Over 'Coming Weeks

WhatsApp Announces Stickers Rollout, Will Be Available to All Android, iPhone Users Over 'Coming Weeks'
WhatsApp now lets you send stickers to your contacts

HIGHLIGHTS

  • WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.18.329 comes with stickers
  • Users on latest WhatsApp for iPhone can also presently receive sticker
  • There is a dedicated Stickers Store to download new sticker packs
WhatsApp on Friday announced that stickers will be rolling out to Android and iPhone users over the coming weeks. We were able to see the features on stable iPhone version 2.18.100, however, Android v2.18.327 didn't yet have it. The company has also detailed how users can create their own sticker pack apps. However, if you're an impatient Android user, and don't yet have the functionality, you can try WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.18.329 or higher versions - we see the functionality on v2.18.330 as well.
The introduction of stickers comes after months of anticipation and some initial rumours and leaks. Alongside giving a handful of default stickers, WhatsApp has provided a dedicated Stickers Store from where you can download new sticker packs for free. There are 12 sticker packs provided by WhatsApp. Additionally, there is a link to download distinguished sticker packs directly from Google Play. You can also use stickers directly from the WhatsApp Web after you'll get it on your smartphone.
"From emoji and camera features to Status and animated GIFs, we're always looking to add new features that make communicating with friends and family on WhatsApp easy and fun. Today, we're excited to introduce a new way for people to express themselves with stickers," the company said in a blog post.
To use a sticker in one of your chats, you need to tap the emoji button from the chat bar and then tap the stickers icon from the bottom bar. There is there a history tab available to show all the previously used stickers in one place. Similarly, there is a favourites tab that includes all the stickers that you've marked as favourite by pressing the star option after selecting your favourite sticker in a particular chat. WhatsApp has also provided a sticker category tab from where you can select the available stickers. Furthermore, there is a plus button that takes you directly to the Stickers Store.
You can visit the Stickers Store to find appropriate sticker packs for your chats. There is an All Stickers tab that lists all the available sticker packs. You can pick one of the sticker packs. You just need to hit the download button available on the right of the sticker pack to download it on your device. Also, you can tap any of the listed sticker packs to view all its available stickers. You can additionally view all the downloaded stickers by tapping the My Stickers tab from the Stickers Store. Moreover, you can download sticker packs other than the ones listed on the Stickers Store by tapping the Get More Stickers button from the bottom of the All Stickers tab.whatsapp stickers android gadgets 360 WhatsApp Stickers

Apart from giving a way to have a collection of stickers to communicate with other users, WhatsApp has provided you with a way to send grouped stickers. You only need to send multiple stickers from your device and those will be available in the grouped form on the recipient's device. This looks similar to the photo albums available on WhatsApp that come once you send multiple photos at once.
WhatsApp lets you access your stickers not just on your smartphone but also on the WhatsApp Web. You only need to access the WhatsApp Web from your browser to start using stickers that are available on your WhatsApp. If in case you won't see stickers on the WhatsApp Web version, you need to clear the cache on your browser and then restart the webpage.

To get stickers, you need to have WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.18.329 or later. You can download the latest beta directly from the Google Play beta programme or in an APK fileform via APK Mirror.
It is worth noting here that WhatsApp stickers can also be received on an iPhone after downloading However, we weren't able to spot the ability to send stickers using the latest WhatsApp for iPhone. The rollout was first reportedby WABetaInfo, which added that apart from WhatsApp for Android beta users, WhatsApp for iPhone version 2.18.100 users also have the functionality. In our testing, while that version received stickers, it didn't have the ability to send them. That should change soon. WABetaInfo adds that users will be able receive stickers as far back as Android version 2.18.310.
Prior to the fresh update, users were able to send stickers on WhatsApp using third-party keyboards such as Gboard. But those stickers were sent as an image. Therefore, the new change is likely to encourage users to send stickers alongside communicating using voice, video, text, and GIFs on the instant messaging app that has over 1.5 billion users worldwide.

Facebook formally revealed the arrival of stickers on WhatsApp back in May, following the announcement of group video calling support on the instant messaging app at the F8 developers' conference.

How To Block Facebook, WhatsApp When Needed? Centre Asks For Views

Last month, the government had expressed dissatisfaction over measures previously listed by WhatsApp for checking fake news that have, in several cases, triggered mob violence

How To Block Facebook, WhatsApp When Needed? Centre Asks For Views

The telecom department has sought views of the industry on technical measures that can be adopted for blocking mobile apps like instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, etc in situations where national security and public order are under threat.
The Department of Telecom (DoT) on July 18, 2018, had written to all telecom operators, the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI), industry body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and others and asked for their inputs to block the applications under Section 69A of the IT Act.
"DoT in the letter had said that the Ministry of Electronics and IT and law enforcement agencies have raised issue around blocking of certain mobile apps like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Telecom, etc to meet requirement under Section 69A of IT Act," an official source told PTI

The Section 69A of IT Act talks about power to issue directions for blocking for public access to any information through any computer resource.
The law authorises the central government or any officer authorised by it to issue direction to block the information on Internet in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the state, friendly relations with foreign states or public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognisable offence relating to them.
Recently, there have been widespread incidents of mob lynching in the country based on rumours spread through social media apps. The popular messaging app, WhatsApp, has been in the eye of storm over abuse of its platform for circulation of fake news that resulted in incitement of mob fury.
An IT ministry official, who did not wish to be named, said, WhatsApp has not committed itself on "traceability" and attribution of messages, which had been one of the key demands of the government.
Hence, the ministry's concerns have not been addressed and the potential for misuse still remains, the source said.
Last month, the government had expressed dissatisfaction over measures previously listed by WhatsApp for checking fake news that have, in several cases, triggered mob violence.
The IT ministry, in its missive, had said that WhatsApp cannot escape from its responsibility for such rampant abuse of its platform and needed to find originators of provocative messages.

The government, in its second notice to the Facebook-owned messaging service, had warned that in the absence of adequate checks, it will treat the messaging platform as 'abettor' of rumour propagation and legal consequences will follow.

WhatsApp told the government it is building a local team, including India head, as part of steps to check fake news circulation.
The mobile messaging platform also said that attributing messages on WhatsApp would undermine the private nature of WhatsApp and create the potential for serious misuse. It added that the focus of the firm is on improving its platform and working closely with others in society to help keep people safe.
